It’s not a secret that timing is everything, and not only in baseball. And with the MLB All-Star game coming soon, the New York Mets decided that it would be better to have Oliver Perez join Jorge Sosa on the DL.
Oliver Perez was scratched from July 1st start in Philadelphia because of a stiff lower back. However, the team still considered using the player at some point this week. But in the long run, it made more sense to put Perez on the Disabled List and recall Jason Vargas from Triple-A New Orleans for the game. The move is retroactive to the end of June. The NY Mets expect the player to be as good as new, when the season resumes in July.
Perez was complaining of stiffness after his last start against the ST. Louis Cardinals. He stated said his condition has improved steadily since then. The New York Mets do not believe that the injury is serious and have yet to send Oliver Perez for an MRI.
At this point, the prognosis is for Oliver Perez to return to NY today and continue on to Port St. Lucie, where the player will keep throwing in preparation for the second half. We’ll meet him during the MLB All Star Game, so call the ticket broker you trust for your baseball tickets.
